本书共分26章，梳理和介绍英国文学发展历程、评述和赏析其代表性作家作品，包括时代背景、文化环境、作家生平及创作、作品梗概与艺术风格、后世影响等。所涉作家、作品的时间跨度自公元初年至当今，是英国文学研究方面一本举足轻重的学术资源性书籍。
