    本书分为两卷（或者称为两部分），分别列入springer《应用数学丛书》之22卷和33卷，内容取自作者在罗拉多州立大学所开的研究生课程讲义，该课程讲授偏微分方程的差分解法，授课的对象为应用数学和工程专业的研究生。
    本书的特点是强调实际上机操作，阅读本书需要一定的偏微分方程基础知识和编程能力，本书可以作为研究生和高年级大学生学习计算数学的教科书。第1卷《数值偏微分方程dd有限差分法》（numerical partial differential equations: finite difference methods）已购权影印出版，编号为wb3299。
