Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) wasa world-renowned Indian poet, philosopher,educator, and also a short-story writer, song composer, playwright, essayist and painter. He was highly influential in reshaping and modernizingIndian literature and music in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as in introducingthe best of lndian culture to the West. Tagore became the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913.
