Currently, cities in China are in a critical stage of transformation and renewal. A major approach to high-quality urban development is to make good use of water bodies in the city to boost development and pursue prosperity through green urban renewal. The Liangma River plays a special role in Chaoyang District or even in Beijing as a whole. Construction of the Liangma River International Waterfront, commenced in 2019, produced eco-friendly ideas, practices and mechanisms for green urban renewal.The project has been quite fruitful in improving the landscape and environment, benefiting the people, boosting development of relevant enterprises, and revitalizing the area as a whole, making it a typical case of implementing Xi Jinping thought on ecological civilization at the local level. This book, as a case study of the Liangma River, will present how the river had changed after the renewal, how it fits into the city, and how it contributes to the sustainable economic, social, and ecological development of the city. On this basis, the book will also discuss some future trends and possible paths towards the building of beautiful cities in line with the concept of sustainability.
