1.不定冠词
不定冠词a和an，它们用来修饰可数名词的单数形式。an用在元音音素开头的单词前，a用在辅音音素开头的单词前。
?a singer 一个歌手 ?an apple 一个苹果
重难点
元音字母有五个：a，e，i，o，u，但并不是所有以元音字母开头的单词前面都用an来修饰。比如，university的第一个发音是 [j]，所以表示“一所大学”时，要用a university。还有一些名词不以元音字母开头，但是发的第一个音却是元音，这样的名词前面要用冠词an，如an hour（一个小时）。
（1）a/an用在表示泛指的单数的人或物前。
?There is a book on the desk. 桌子上有一本书。
?My mother lets me eat an apple in the morning. 我妈妈让我早上吃一个苹果。
（2）a/an用来表示区别于其他物种的人或物。
?A cat is smaller than a tiger. 猫比老虎小。
（3）a/an表示数量“一”。
?I bought an umbrella. 我买了一把伞。
（4）a/an可以用在有形容词修饰的名词前。
?She is a beautiful girl. 她是一个漂亮的女孩。
?I am an experienced doctor. 我是一位经验丰富的医生。
2.定冠词
定冠词the用在名词前，表明该名词的含义。
?the dress 这条裙子 ?the woman 这个女人
（1）the 表示特指的人或物。
?The person standing under the tree is my aunt.
站在树下的那个人是我姑姑。
（2）the 用来指代前面已经提到的人或物。 ?There's a man in the car. The man is a teacher.车里有个人。那人是个老师。
?There is a book on the desk. The book is my sister's. 桌子上有一本书。这本书是我姐姐的。
（3）the 用来表示世界上独一无二的事物。
?The sun rises in the east. 太阳从东方升起。
（4）the 用在序数词以及形容词的优选前。
?I am the first person to arrive at the office. 我是第一个到达办公室的人。
?He is the tallest boy in the class. 他是班上优选的男孩。
（5）the 用在表示方位、方向的名词前。
?The library is in the middle of the school. 图书馆在学校的中间。
（6）the 用在表示江河、海洋或山脉的专有名词前。
?The scenery of the West Lake is beautiful. 西湖的景色很美。
（7）the 用在表示西方乐器的名词前面。
?I can't play the guitar well. 我吉他弹得不好。
（8）the 用在由两个或两个以上的普通名词构成的专有名词前。
?I'd like to visit the Summer Palace. 我想去参观颐和园。
（9）the 用在姓氏的复数形式前，表示一家人。
?The Whites are going on a picnic. 怀特一家要去野餐。
重难点
定冠词the的特殊用法
1.和部分形容词连用，可以表示一类人，如the old（老人），the young（年轻人）等。
2.the和表示身体部位的名词连用，用来表示打在什么部位，如hit the head（打到了头）。
3.零冠词
零冠词主要指有些名词和短语前不使用冠词的情况。
（1）零冠词用在表示国名、地名和人名的名词前。
?Newton was a great scientist. 牛顿是一位伟大的科学家。
?New York is a fashion capital. 纽约是一个时尚之都。 （2）零冠词用在表示泛指的一类人或物的复数名词前。
?Children are the future of our country. 儿童是我们国家的未来。
（3）零冠词用在表示三餐和球类运动的名词前。
?We usually have lunch at 12 o'clock. 我们通常在12点吃午饭。
重难点
表示三餐的名词前有其他的修饰词时，通常在修饰词前面加上不定冠词，如a good dinner（一顿丰盛的晚餐）。
（4）零冠词用在表示季节、星期、月份、日期、节日等的名词前。
?My favourite season is autumn. 我最喜欢的季节是秋天。
?My mother's birthday is in February. 我妈妈的生日在二月。
（5）零冠词用在表示泛指意义的不可数名词前。
?Homework is too difficult for me. 作业对我来说太难了。

抽象名词表示一般概念时，要用零冠词。
（6）零冠词用在表示职位、头衔和称呼的名词前。
?Our monitor is strict with us. 班长对我们很严格。
（7）零冠词用在前面有指示代词、不定代词或物主代词的名词前。
?My wallet is nicer than yours. 我的钱包比你的好。
（8）零冠词用在两个或两个以上并列的不可数名词前。

（9）零冠词用在和by 连用的表示交通工具的名词前。
