本书是根据教育部职业院校外语类专业教学指导委员会《高等职业教育英语课程教学基本要求（试行）》编写而成的。全书共分为三大部分，共设七个单元，内容涵盖互联网与创新、制造业、智能制造与工业4.0、机器人技术、计算机数控技术、传感器技术及集成芯片。本书最后的附录，供学有余力的学生选择学习，供教师教学参考。此外，本书还提供了配套课件、教案、录音材料和视频材料，供广大教师使用。本书顺应高职高专公共英语教学改革发展趋势，秉承"实用为主、够用为度"的原则，真正体现出行业英语教学理念，具有行业性、实用性和多样性特点，适合高职高专院校机电一体化、数控、电气自动化、机器制造与自动化、智能制造技术、工业机器人技术及模具等专业的学生使用。
