本书是依据2018年6月实施的《中国英语能力等级量表》(下面简称量表)的要求编写而成的。在编写本书的过程中，编者认真学习了量表，量表中将听力理解能力分为“基础、发展、熟练”三个阶段，每个阶段包含三个等级，即“三段九级”，其中五、六级对应大学英语。依据量表要求，编者力求编写出能够帮助大学英语学习者有效提升听力理解能力的听力材料。本书每单元都由Warming-up Activity、Conversations、Passages、Compound Dictation、Story Appreciation及Key to the Exercises (Listening by Code)组成，形式活泼多样，而且与全国大学英语水平测试第四级的形式相吻合，内容涉及日常生活和社交活动的各个方面，不仅有助于提高学生的听力技能，也有益于提高学生的英语交际能力。本书音频采用“码上学”的高科技手段，学习者使用智能手机扫码即可获得本书的音频(语音)、书面语料、答案等，进行有效的自主学习。本书适合作为我国高等院校非英语专业一、二年级学生的大学英语听力教材。
