Central and South America consists of emerging market countries and developing economies, with abundant natural resources and solid foundations in industries, human resources and regional integration. In recent years, Central and South American countries have been actively exploring their own development paths, with an emphasis on top-level design and overall planning, and have been endeavoring to cultivate internal driving forces which will deliver sustainable economic growth. In general, Central and South American countries have advantages with regard to future sustainable development, however, they are also facing severe challenges such as lacking economic growth impetus, decreasing manufacturing competitiveness, stagnant infrastructure construction, and insufficient capabilities in terms of securing and allocating energy and power and coping with climate change. In order to realize the sustainable development of Central and South America, it is necessary to follow the principles of green and low-carbon development. Based on abundant clean energy and mineral resources, Central and South American countries will accelerate the re-industrialization and high-quality development of manufacturing, whilst actively addressing climate change, fully implementing 2aC temperature control target of Paris Agreement and enhancing regional integration. As a result, comprehensive and coordinated development can be achieved featuring economic prosperity, social advancement and ecological preservation.
