《包法利夫人(英文版)》:主人公艾玛是一位外省农村少女,在修道院受到与自己出身接近不相称的贵族教育,受到了消极浪漫主义思潮的影响。后来,破产的父亲把她嫁给乡村医生包法利做续弦。包法利平庸无能的使她由失望、不满逐步陷入堕落的泥潭,先后沦为地主罗多夫和书记员莱昂的情人,并为此欠下了沉重的债务,最后在高利贷逼迫下服毒自尽。作者以简洁而细腻的文笔,深刻地揭露了法国19世纪中叶恶浊的社会现实。
作者简介
古斯塔夫·福楼拜(Gustave Flaubert,1821-1880),继巴尔扎克、司汤达之后19世纪法国批判现实主义文学的杰出代表。
生于法国诺曼底卢昂医生世家。童年在父亲医院里度过,医院环境培养了他细致观察与剖析事物的习惯,对日后的文学创作产生了极大的影响。1840年,他赴巴黎求学,攻读法律,期间结识雨果。1843年放弃法律,专攻文学。1846年,回卢昂,结识女诗人路易丝·柯莱,随后有近十年的交往。定居卢昂期间,他埋头写作,偶尔拜会文艺界的朋友,直到生命最后时刻。晚年,他曾悉心指导莫泊桑写作。
1857年,福楼拜出版代表作长篇小说《包法利夫人》,轰动文坛。其作品另有《萨朗波》、《情感教育》、《圣安东尼的诱惑》、《布瓦尔和佩库歇》和短篇小说集《三故事》等。
