摘要
Words with two syllables best satisty the requirement of the standard prosodic word. So it is not strange that disyllabic words have the largest number in Chinese, and disyllabic foot form is the most common and productive word formation form. Since the disyllabic foot is the standard foot, the standard prosodic word is a disyllabic word. The standard prosodic word is also called the minimal prosodic word. Monosyllabic word cannot be a prosodic word, since it does not match the requirement on the number of syllables for a prosodic word. As for trisyllabic word, it forms a super prosodic word. 3.3 Prosodic Constraints on Chinese Syntax Prosodic syntax, the study of the prosodic constraints on syntax,is capturing increasing attention. Against the theory of phonology-free syntax, prosodic syntax discusses the bi-directional interaction between syntax and prosody. Put differently, the hypothesis that syntax governs prosody and prosody also constrains syntax isadvocated. Prosodic syntax study in Chinese is headed by Feng (1997, 2000). Prosodic constraints on Chinese syntax are realized through the principle of nuclear stress rule in basic sentence structures. Nuclear stress is a stress shown in a sentence without special context. It is a natural stress form in which there is no interference of part focal stress under special contexts. ……
