杨开忠 男，汉族，1962年1月生于湖南省常德市。理学硕士，经济学博士，教授，博士生导师。1985年，中国科学院地理研究所实习研究员；1988年，北京大学博士后；1992年，晋升北京大学教授。先后执教于北京大学城市与环境学院、经济学院、政府管理学院。1995年10月至1996年5月，应区域科学之父walter Isard邀请在康奈尔大学从事研究；2001年12月至2002年9月，美国加州大学伯克利分校公共政策学院高级访问学者。 现任北京大学校务委员会副主任、北京大学秘书长、北京大学中国区域经济研究中心主任、长江经济战略研究中心主任、国家规划专家委员会委员、中国区域科学协会会长、中国经济学奖评奖专家委员会成员，北京市、福建省、山西省、青海省、武汉市、成都市等人民政府顾问或决策咨询委员会委员、北京专家联谊会副理事长、亚洲和平科学联盟创始成员。曾任北京市发展与改革委员会副主任、北京市经济与社会发展研究所所长，北京大学城市与环境学院院长、遥感与地理信息系统研究所所长、政府管理学院副院长，国家中长期科学技术规划纲要起草小组成员、全国旅游标准化委员会委员、国家土地局科技委员会委员、亚洲城市与区域研究会会长。 作为中国区域科学／区域经济学的主要推动者，1991年领导创建了中国区域科学协会。并长期致力于区域科学／区域经济学、区域发展与城镇化研究，先后承担完成国家社会科学基金重大项目、国家自然科学基金重点项目、国家攻关项目等数十项研究课题，发表学术论文约200篇，出版著作多部；多项重要研究成果被国家和地方中长期决策采纳，为中国区域科学／区域经济学、区域发展与城镇化理论与实践做出了重要贡献。
