本教材涵盖20世纪最有代表性的优秀英国文学家:J.康拉德、E.M.福斯特、K.曼斯菲尔德、W.叶芝、T.S.艾略特、D.H.劳伦斯、J.乔伊斯、V.伍尔夫、A. 赫胥黎、S.贝克特和W.戈尔丁,其中有小说家、短篇小说家、诗人和剧作家,四位诺贝尔文学奖获得者。教材每篇课文包括作家的“生平”“创作时期及主要作品”“思想观点”“美学原则和创作手法”“选读”(1篇文学代表作和1篇文论)和“思考题”六部分,概括作家的生活哲学、政治观、道德观、美学观、创作手法和艺术风格,结合宏观历史语境研究和微观文学文本分析,探究各个作家批判现代工业异化效应、质疑殖民主义、张扬女性主义,深思传统与现代性、历史与现代文明、东方与西方冲突等多方面的现代主义和后现代主义文学主题意义,分析文学作品中蕴涵的象征主义、反传统叙事、意识流、荒诞派艺术等创新美学观, 系统阐释20世纪英国文学丰富的思想价值和艺术性。
作者简介
朱望 ---------------------------- 朱望,汕头大学文学院外国语言文学系教授,两次赴美国、一次赴英国作英国文学和西方文化研究项目(国家项目一个)。从1996年至今发表现代英国文学论文多篇,如《论T.S论艾略特的文化保守主义》《文学与文化之间:〈论印度之行〉跨文化的多重意义》《论乔伊斯〈一个青年艺术家的画像〉中的社会化意义》等(刊于《外国文学研究》《国外文学》《外国文学》《英美文学研究论丛》《解放军外语学院学报》等期刊)。著有《现代英国文学大家》和《现当代西方文化名家》,形成了文学与文化相辅相成的配套英文教材。 教授现代英国文学20年(汕大教学无记名评估每位学期97—99分,名列全校第一/校平均分88);任硕士导师12年;完成汕头大学的“20世纪英国文学”精品课程建设项目,本教材就是项目建设的主要内容;获云南省“优秀教师”称号,多次获云南大学校级、省级和汕头大学校级优秀奖,并获得“李嘉诚基金会卓越教师奖”。
