本书遵循新国标精神，对照《中国英语能力等级量表》和颁布的《大学英语教学指南》，强调培养语言的输入与输出能力，其选材无论是篇幅、语言难度，还是长度均体现一定梯度。并从当前学生的学习水平和心理出发，把现有大学英语快速阅读、泛读、长篇阅读与精读等教材所涉及的语言能力培养和教学目标融为一体，努力满足当前大学生英语学习的需求，特别注重培养学生的英语综合能力，使其通过阅读英语原文熟悉不同语域，切实把握语言特点和表述方式，进而更好地培养他们使用英语的能力。

王维倩，女，教授。1984年于四川外国语大学英语系毕业。1984-2000年就职于内江师范学院英语系，大学英语部主任。2000至今就职于江苏理工学院外国语学院，任外国语学院院长。1995-1996年四川师范学院英语高级访问学者，获研究生课程结业证书。2005-2006年获江苏省政府留学奖学金资助，赴加拿大留学半年。 刘江凤，女，对外英语教学硕士，讲师。（1）主要研究方向：双语教育、语言教学与测试。（2）相关成果及荣誉：在国内外期刊发表论文10余篇；参编教材2部；参与英国利物浦大学科研项目1项，所撰论文被牛津大学出版社的论文集收录；主持校教改课题2项；全国高校外语教学技能大赛江苏赛区三等奖；全国高校外语教师教案设计江苏赛区三等奖；校“优秀共产党员”；校“优秀班主任”；指导学生参加外语技能大赛获全国一、二等奖各1项、三等奖2项，省一、二、三等奖各1项，市二等奖1项；（3）近三年主要教授课程：大学英语系列课程、留学生商务英语课程、中美合作项目国际交流英语课程等。
