黄平，男，1958年2月22日出生于四川成都。伦敦经济政治学院社会学博士（1991）。现为中国社会科学院美国研究所研究员、原所长。兼任中华美国学会会长、中国社会科学院世界政治中心主任、中国社会科学院研究生院美国系主任（博士生导师）、《美国研究》主编、中国社科院高级职称评委、美国研究所学术委员会主任、中国经济社会理事会常务理事、中国国际关系学会副会长、国际社会学学会（IIS）副会长等职。曾任中国社会科学院社会学所副所长、院国际合作局局长、联合国教科文组织重大科学项目评审委员、联合国教科文组织“社会转型管理”（MOST）政府间理事会副主席、国际社会科学理事会（ISSC）副理事长等职。研究领域为政治社会学。
